The SEAI grant for windows and doors has opened a world of possibilities for homeowners in Ireland. For those experiencing rising bills, heat loss or overall reduced comfort, the grant can help your house feel like a home again.
Robert Kennedy, Managing Director of Sky Windows, says the grants “give you an opportunity to improve and future-proof your home. You’re not only improving energy efficiency and the overall aesthetic of your home, but you’re also creating a more comfortable space for your family.”
Of course, certain rules apply to receiving the grant. Here, we look at the essential aspects of the grant, who can apply and how to go about it.
The Windows and Doors Grant, along with several other sustainable energy grants, is managed by the Sustainability Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI).
The SEAI Ireland “works with householders, businesses, communities and government to create a cleaner energy future”, doing so by offering incentives such as the windows and doors grant, an attic insulation grant and a heat pump grant among others. These grants help homeowners reduce their energy costs and their carbon footprint, in turn helping Ireland achieve a more sustainable future.
Introduced on March 2nd, 2026, this SEAI grant for windows and doors enables homeowners to address heat loss and expensive energy bills while improving the overall comfort of their home.
Homeowners who started or ordered a window or door upgrade since the government announcement on the January 27th are also eligible to apply for grant support once they meet the scheme’s requirements and use registered contractors.

So, the big question: how much is the SEAI grant for windows and doors?
This SEAI grant doesn’t offer a fixed amount for just windows or doors as it depends on the full upgrade. That said, the grant does offer the following amounts:
Homeowners can apply for the windows grant, the doors grant or both.
Windows
External Doors
The SEAI windows and doors grant, like all grants, is subject to certain eligibility criteria. In this instance, you are eligible if:
The house was built and occupied prior to 2011.
The house has good attic and wall insulation. Here, “good” insulation refers to insulation previously put in place with the help of an SEAI grant.
You’re replacing existing single or double glaze windows with high-performing windows (1.4 or better).
You’re replacing inefficient doors.
There are two ways of undertaking the SEAI grant application for windows and doors.
One option is to apply yourself and manage the upgrade using a registered contractor. The grant is paid directly to you once the works are completed. The second option is to use a One Stop Shop to manage the project. This way, the One Stop Shop applies for the grant on your behalf and takes care of the entire upgrade. The grant is deducted upfront from the cost you pay the One Stop Shop.
Should you wish to apply yourself, the following process applies:

Get quotes from registered contractors.

Apply to the SEAI for a grant offer.

Wait to receive a grant offer from the SEAI (don’t commence works prior to receiving your grant offer).

Complete the works.

The SEAI will then pay your grant into your account (inspection may apply).
